“The Australasian Philatelic Traders' Association Inc. (APTA) recently held its annual convention and stamp show at the Seagulls Resort Townsville. The decision to hold this event at Townsville was made because:
1. Excellent weather at this time of the year
2. Attractive accommodation rates and reasonable catering costs
3. Discount airfares available from Virgin and Qantas
4. The fact that we never held a show in FNQ
5. Quiet time of the year for dealers
To enable this whole event to get off the ground we obtained help from the Townsville Enterprise Convention Bureau. We were supplied with a large quantity of colour brochures on Townsville and Magnetic Island that we sent out to our members. The Bureau also twice distributed our press release to radio, Television and newspapers. This distribution resulted in numerous editorials and a 3 to 4 min. news report on Channel 7's 6 o'clock news. The overall result was a most successful convention and show and we thank the Bureau for all the help it extended to us. Everyone enjoyed their stay in Townsville and were not disappointed with any aspect.”

The location (NQ Water Quarry at Ross River Dam) was to say the least spectacular and I feel will prove to be a strong asset for the region as a site for C&I functions.
The food was of superior standard and the presentation was certainly as high as I have experienced at major international events, heaps of WOW factor!
